The Countdown Begins
Well, it is getting close to showtime. My first figure competition in over five years is happening in 2 & 1/2 weeks! I have worked very hard, and I am proud of my results. I won’t say I am ‘happy’ with the results, because I still feel there is a long way I have to go to improve to the level I feel I need to be to compete on a higher level. It’s too late now to build muscle, so I am focusing on getting lean and ripped! I am doing cardio twice a day, plus yoga and still lifting, but with much lighter weights and higher repetitions.
I went today for my final fitting for my costume and new swimsuit, and I was so excited! My costume is much cuter than I even hoped it would be. Kyra, of Vandella Costumes (http://www.vandellacostumes.com/) is such an amazing artisan. She actually MADE the stripes on my costume shorts out of glittery red material, instead of just finding red and white-stiped material. How cool is that? I can’t wait to show off the finished product. There is still hemming and fitting to do, but it will all be ready by early next week.
I am practicing my posing, too. Boy, I should have started that a long time ago. I really need a lot of work, and I don’t feel confident at all yet. I will paste a video below of part of my posing practice I had yesterday. A dear friend and fellow competitor is helping me, and she is very good. I have a couple of other people I will draw on as well, for their knowledge and advice.

I am pretty much living on green smoothies right now, to drop bodyfat fast. On the last week, I will have to cut out a lot of fruit. I dread that! I live on and love fruit so much. I am only having small amounts of fat now, too. Like maybe one avocado, a tablespoon of coconut oil, some tahini, etc. This dieting down as a raw vegan is completely new and uncharted territory for me. I totally know what to do from my ‘old life’, and that’s how all the other competitors do it. I have to figure this thing out. And it will take more than one try to get it right. Experimentation is the key here. And I hope I can help others who come after me, by blazing the new trail now. And I do intend to compete to WIN, not just to look good. I want to prove I can WIN as a raw vegan, without compromising my health and my ideals.
My contest is April 11th, in Gainesville, GA. It’s called the SuperNatural–which I like! It is drug-tested, which I also like. Since I only eat whole raw foods, with almost no supplements except for Sun Warrior protein, I should have the cleanest test of the show! They can hook me up to any polygraph they want to, and I have no fear of peeing in any cup they hand me. I know I am clean, and I am proud of it!
So I am being very defiant–daring to bodybuild without meat! Wish me luck as I try to bring this to the mainstream and show everyone that it’s a fabulous lifestyle–and you can have your muscle and your raw cake too!
Be Defiant!
