I’m Back!

I am so sorry it’s been so long since I have written anything on my blog.  I have truly missed it.  Life has been extremely hectic and I just haven’t had the time to sit down and write like I want to.  I need to do short ones instead, I know.  I tend to take a long time, sometimes hours, to write a blog entry because I give it so much thought.

I have had some thoughts since the contest is over and some time has passed.  The main thought is that I am so glad that I went to the competition and got my butt kicked.  I definitely hate to lose, so I am not glad about that, but I am grateful for the lessons I learned and the motivation it has given me.  For one thing, I am bitten again by the competition bug!  I love competing and it really revived my itch to compete.  I want to do more, more, more!

The main thing that benefitted me was getting out of my comfort zone.  Around the gym, in my own little world, there are very few people I come into contact with that are really ‘ripped’ and muscular.  Well, there are more guys that are, but it’s rare to see a woman in true competition shape.  So it’s easy for me to get complacent and think I am doing pretty well.  But there are some truly awesome women out there who are in far better condition than I.  So it’s great to have that new yardstick to measure by, and more motivation to improve and reach farther than I thought I could–to reach my true potential.  And that’s what I brought home from the competition:  a burning desire to dig deeper, push harder, lift heavier, run faster, eat better, grow more muscle, and lower my bodyfat.  I know I can do it!

Another lesson is that although I have much room for improvement, I am pleased that I held my own amid tough competition, even though I competed in less than my best condition.  And I am also proud of myself for achieving the best condition that I ever had.   I am already a winner because I overcame challenges to reach not only a good physical appearance, but the best health I have ever enjoyed.  And I do mean ever!  I can’t even remember a time in my youth where I wasn’t suffering from at least respiratory and sinus issues.  If I had only known then that dairy was the root of those problems….

Since I returned, I have worked out almost every single day.  I probably should take a day off and rest but I don’t want to!  I have also been doing a whole lot of high intensity interval cardio, including sprinting.  Going up to the high school track and running wind sprints makes me feel like I am back in high school.  :-)    I am really enjoying that, and wish I could get up there more often.  I have also upped my leg workouts to twice a week, with one day being higher rep with more plyometrics, and the other being ridiculously heavy and hard.  Back and shoulders are the other main areas I am focusing on.

My rant for today:

What the heck was going on yesterday on the Today Show?  Was it bought and paid for by the aspartame lobby?   Their ‘nutritionist’ was discussing artificial and alternative sweeteners.  She started with saccharin, also known as Sweet ‘n Low, or the pink packets.  Matt Lauer asked her about the dangers of using saccharin, and she stumbled around like a drunken goat avoiding answering the question, finally blurting out that the FDA ‘had given it its stamp of approval’ so it was OK with her.  Then she said to be very careful and only have one or two items per day.  She KNEW there were dangers, but didn’t want to upset the sponsors who pay big bucks to support the Today Show!  Then, they moved on to aspartame, and this time, Matt didn’t even ASK about the dangers or issues, and she just gushed about how sweet and great it is.  Splenda also received the gushy gooey treatment.

Then she got to stevia, which received a decent mention, but the only products they showed were Truvia which has stevia as a secondary ingredient behind some chemical sweetener.  I love stevia, but won’t touch Truvia.   Sweetleaf is a brand I use and like.   Then she mentioned agave, but only processed agave, not raw.  And the natural sweeteners barely got a few seconds, as opposed to the toxic chemicals.

It was such a blatant, disgusting cop-out to the Big Corporate interests.  And the sad thing is, most people watching would simply accept the FDA explanation, without ever researching the truth.  Like blind sheep, they are led to slaughter believing that the FDA has a shred of interest in protecting them from harm.  The only harm the FDA is interested in preventing is harm to the huge profits of the chemical and drug companies!

Don’t be a sheep!  Defy the FDA and the chemicals.  Eliminate ALL those artificial chemicals from your life.  They are NOT FOOD!  They are chemicals, toxic chemicals, pure and simple.

It’s great to be back.  I am working on some exciting projects which I hope to share with you soon.  I promise I won’t be gone so long this time!

Be Defiant!
