Tips & a Recipe for a Healthy, Romantic Valentine’s Day

OK, so yesterday we discussed that indulging in treats on a special day like Valentine’s Day, is fine, as long as you keep everything else in line otherwise. In fact, it can be good for you!

Today, let’s talk about how to indulge in a healthy way. Here’s a few tips, and a killer chocolate recipe that is off the charts on nutrition, flavor, and romance!

1) Exercise! Yes, make time early on Valentine’s Day for a great workout. Work up a sweat! You will be energized, and psychologically will feel much better about yourself & your appearance. Plus it will help rev your metabolism to assist in dealing with any indulgences!

2) Eat all your regular meals. You ARE eating at least 6 small, healthy meals a day, aren’t you? Keep your same routine, up until the special meal you are sharing with the love of your life.

3) Continuing tip 2—DON’T skip meals thinking you are saving calories. BAD idea! You will be hungry, eat too much, & over do it! Plus you will make less rational decisions when faced with a menu of SAD foods.

4) Focus on your partner & what they would LOVE to have on their special day, NOT all the commercialized Valentine’s Day junk. This is about you and the love of your life–NOT food! The best Valentine’s Day I ever had is when I surprised Michael with an in-home massage just for him. (Not by me! I stink at massages! HOW do they keep their hands from cramping???) I mean, by a real, excellent masseuse. An incredible treat, and no food involved!

5) Relax, have fun, & enjoy yourself! This is a day to celebrate love. Celebrate yourself and love yourself on Valentine’s too! Treat your body with love, with healthy foods that give it life & energy.

RECIPE:

RAW Passion Superfood Strawberries

Find the most beautiful strawberries in town. Get either Raw Cacao nibs or Really Raw Cacao powder, Raw honey, raw macadamia nuts or almonds, & Himalayan sea salt. You should be able to find these at any good health food store.

If you bought the raw cacao nibs, grind about 1/2 cup of them in your coffee grinder until very, very fine. Pour into a bowl. If you have the powder, use about 1/2 cup. Pour enough honey in to make a thick dip, with a creamy consistency. Mix the cacao & honey together. To really kick it up a notch, add a dash of cayenne powder! (Cayenne amplifies chocolate flavor) Set aside.

Crush your macadamias or almonds into fine pieces, add a dash of Himalayan sea salt to taste & mix. Set aside.

When ready to serve, wash strawberries, keeping stems & leaves on. Dry them thoroughly with paper towels, or the chocolate won’t stick.

Dip a strawberry in the chocolate syrup, roll it in the crushed nuts, and then feed it slowly, lovingly to your partner, savoring the moment.

Voila! An incredibly romantic treat, that also happens to be LOADED with all kinds of nutrients. The raw cacao literally has a chemical called theobromine, which is also known as the ‘bliss chemical’. It’s what makes you crave chocolate so much–it truly affects the brain, elevating mood & giving you that ‘in-love’ feeling! And it is incredibly high in cell-building nutrients. I don’t have to go into how good the other ingredients are–they are all superfoods in their own rights!

Enjoy!!!   Oh, and use your imagination as to what to do with any leftover chocolate syrup! :)
